TOEFL iBT準備心得 - 口說

  • 黃金口說80 題(網路上可以找得到,用來準備Q1和Q2) 
  • 新托福口語真經(中國新航道出版社,簡體)
心得
準備三戰托福時,我請了一位加拿大籍的英文家教協助我練習口說和寫作的部份,每週兩個小時練習口說和檢討寫作內容,我覺得很有幫助。畢竟自己再怎麼講怎麼寫,都還是要有個人來評斷一下才會發現問題。上課時,我們所使用的教材是Cambridge這本書,不過我認為它的內容和出題方向都偏離實戰,所以就只是當作練習用。

我實際使用的教材是中國新航道出版社的「新托福口語真經」。這本書都是考古題(主要是2006年的),所以參考價值很高。在準備過程中,我整本書的題目都至少練習過一遍,實戰時每個題目我都覺得非常熟悉、似曾相似,讓我聽到題目時安心不少。

模板的部份,前兩次考試都是參考網路上大家所分享的模板。但是老師都會說我廢話講太多,導致我沒有時間把主題講好。因此根據老師的意見,我修正了模板,一律使用開門見山法破題,然後使用清楚的結構來闡述我的意見。在修改模板時,我會回想自己做聽力時的感覺,如果講者連珠炮似的敘述,我會很難抓重點,導致聽不懂他在講什麼;但若講者使用結構式的講述方法,我就很容易可以聽懂。所以模板也一樣,目的不是要充字數,而是要幫助自己組織答案,也讓聽者可以很迅速地抓到我要表達的重點。

另外,Q3和Q4的模板,老師建議我不要講太多關於文章的內容,這點和網路上所分享的模板有很大的出入。但我認為老師講的也很有道理,他說,仔細看題目,題目並沒有問你文章在說什麼,而是問你講者的內容,以及講者如何支持他的論點。文章只是輔助你了解講者所敘述的主題,以及預先讓你注意一些關鍵字或專有名詞,所以不需要花時間去說明文章內容。因此我的模板就幾乎沒有提到文章內容,而是專注在講者的意見。

我不敢說自己的模板和策略是絕對正確的,畢竟得到的分數雖然有進步但也不算高分,不過我認為簡單明瞭的結構一定是很有幫助的。

另外,還有一點很重要的是,實戰時千萬不要緊張。第三次實戰時,幾乎每一題我都自認為筆記做的非常完整,一定可以答的不錯,但因為得失心太重,一開口說就緊張到不行。甚至有一度眼睛瞪著筆記,任憑大腦如何催促嘴巴就是不聽使喚地「呃 ... 嗯 ...」,直到最後三秒才硬把話擠出來。我相信如果當初可以更冷靜,口說分數應該可以更好。

以下分享我所使用的模板,以及我練習時的內容,跟實戰的作答內容差不多,如果實戰時沒有因為太緊張而失分,這樣的內容大概可以拿22~24分吧。

Q1 
I prefer to live where the climate changes with the season. (重複題目) There are several reasons. (用several而不用明確的數字,以免講不完)

First, the view would be different in different climates. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚) For example, in the warm spring, leaves on a tree are green. (如果可以舉例,盡量舉自己的例子)
When it going to cold winter, leaves would turn into red.

Second, in different climates, I can enjoy different kinds of food.
For example, in the summer, I can eat mangoes. In the winter, I can eat strawberries.

In conclusion, those are the reasons for my opinion. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講) 

Q2 
In my opinion, I believe team sports can help children develop the sense of cooperation. (重複題目) 
There are several reasons. (用several而不用明確的數字,以免講不完)

First, team sports need children to cooperate with each other. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚) 
For example, children playing baseball have their own positions and functions.
They have to work with each other to win the game. (如果可以舉例,盡量舉自己的例子) 

Second, children play as a team means that they have the same goal.
To reach the same goal, they will learn how to coordinate each team member to make the team better and stronger.
Therefore, team sports can help children develop the sense of cooperation. (建議使用therefore、furthermore等連接詞,豐富結構)

In conclusion, those are the reasons for my opinion. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講) 

Q3 
The school is going to add some evening classes in the computer lab. (開頭簡單一句話說明學校打算要幹什麼) 
However, the man disagrees with this new policy for several reasons. (一定要表達講者的立場) 

First, the man says that most full-time students have their own personal life after school. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚) 
Therefore, adding classes in the evening may disturb their daily schedule. (使用連接詞,豐富結構) 

Second, the man mentions that adding evening courses means paying extra money to professors for their extra hours beyond regular courses.
As a result, he suggests that the school should save this money to improve equipments for the computer lab.

In conclusion, those are the reasons for his opinion about the reading passage. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講) 

Q4
The reading passage is talking about nonverbal languages. (開頭先稍微提到文章的主題,但不用講太細,重點在講者的說明) 
And the professor introduces two examples to illustrate this topic. 

The first example is about body movement. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚)
When the professor met with her uncle, she was so happy that she acted like an eight years old boy.
And her uncle was influenced by her movement and then enjoy their meeting.

The second example is about facial expression.
After the professor spend a whole afternoon playing with her little daughter, she felt exhausted.
When she tried to tell her daughter that she was happy, her facial expression betrayed her true feeling.

In conclusion, those are the ideas for the professor’s opinion about the reading passage. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講)

Q5 
The man has a problem that he gets a part-time job for a summer project, but he didn’t apply for the summer dormitory. (開頭用一句話簡單敘述問題)
The woman suggests him two solutions. 

First, he can stay with his parents. (簡單說明solution,重點在自己的意見) 
Second, he can rent an apartment near the school.
I prefer the first solution for several reasons. (一定要選邊站,闡述自己的立場) 

My first reason is that living with parents can save a lot of money. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚) 
For example, he doesn’t have to pay for electricity, water and food.

My second reason is that renting an apartment is much more expensive than driving to school.
Although the cost of gasoline is pretty high, the rent will cost his whole salary.

In conclusion, those are the reasons for my opinion about the man’s problem. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講) 

Q6 
The professor is talking about the relationship between product demand and price. (開頭簡單說明講者的主題) 
And he introduces 2 example to illustrate this topic. 

The first example is about coffee. (使用first、second的結構,簡單又清楚)
When coffee price increases, people are less likely to buy it. Instead, people may shift to other drinks, such as milk or tea.
Therefore, the demand of coffee will decrease. (使用連接詞,豐富結構) 


The second example is about bread in 18 century.
At that time, beard was the cheapest product.
When price of bread went up, people still could not afford meat.
As a result, they just bought more bread for storage, and the demand of bread was increased.

In conclusion, those are the ideas for the professor’s opinion. (結論句,殺時間用,不一定要講)
